November 2026 … Complete National Resource & Reference List

This is the source register for the November 2026 addition to Chico Campout for Compassion. It preserves the national and state references, every unique national PDF submitted for review, their intended uses, and caveats. Resources are recommended, not required. These are external source materials, not endorsements of our independent local event.

A. National and California observances

  1. California Homeless Education Technical Assistance Center (HETAC): National Homeless Youth Awareness Month toolkit … background on the 2007 congressional recognition; sample school-board resolution, school calendar and activities, press release, books and films, educational videos, social posts, and optional November 10 #WearGreenDay.
  2. California Senate Concurrent Resolution 197 (2026) … designation of November 2026 as California Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, and Education (HOPE) Month.
  3. Youth HOPE Month … National Runaway Safeline … additional youth prevention and awareness context; the HETAC toolkit links to its dedicated Youth HOPE materials.
  4. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week … official campaign … November 15–21, 2026 per the campaign homepage; annual nationwide education, service, and action effort.
  5. Hunger and homelessness … HHWeek background and actions … context and activity ideas. Some headline figures on this page are dated and should not be repeated as 2026 statistics.

B. Original HHWeek toolkit PDFs supplied for review

These entries preserve all thirteen unique PDF titles supplied in the request. The lobbying PDF was submitted twice and is listed only once. Some older documents use dated language and activities we do not recommend for our particular Campout.

  1. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Toolkit (2024 PDF) … model for resource sharing, youth/student education, consented testimonials, public awareness, and community action. Many included data points are historical.
  2. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Campus Organizing Toolkit (2024 PDF) … event-planning roles, community collaboration, outreach, publicity, recipient coordination, and quality-over-quantity planning. Parts were designed for campuses and pandemic-era conditions.
  3. Dining Hall Fast (PDF) … campus dining-service concept; context only, not a Campout recommended activity, especially where meal skipping may be harmful or exclusionary.
  4. Faces of Homelessness Panel (PDF) … inviting people with lived experience into a dialogue; adapt with informed consent, participant control, transportation, appropriate compensation, and no invasive questions.
  5. Homeless Challenge Project (PDF) … historical street-immersion exercise; not adopted or recommended because staged deprivation, impersonation, safety risks, and use of already-stretched services conflict with the Campout’s safer educational model.
  6. Lobbying Elected Officials (PDF) … preparing two or three well-researched topics and respectful civic meetings; the Campout can invite evidence-based questions without requiring political agreement.
  7. One Night Without a Home (PDF) … a historical model for the optional reflection-and-discussion sleep-out; our Nov. 14 event is separately organized, distributed across permitted sites, and does not claim to simulate homelessness.
  8. Outreach Run (PDF) … listening, coordination with existing outreach, and distributing requested goods; adapt with consent, dignity, advance recipient coordination, and no uninvited or unsafe visits.
  9. Hunger Banquet (PDF) … inequality/food access teaching model; not a default recommendation. Consider its educational questions without imposing unequal meals or hunger on participants.
  10. Walk a Mile in My Shoes (PDF) … historical peer-learning concept; prefer voluntarily invited conversation over shadowing, intrusive visits, or portraying one person’s experience as a simulation.
  11. Sample Press Release (PDF) … format guidance for an original Chico release; do not claim an affiliation, speaker, event, or donor not confirmed locally.
  12. Sample Proclamation (PDF) … a model for local governments and school boards to recognize hunger/homelessness awareness; sample only, not an actual Chico proclamation.
  13. Sample Schedule of Events (PDF) … supplied as a reference. The linked PDF could not be retrieved during this review, so its contents are not represented as reviewed or verified.

Media outreach source supplied as an attachment

Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week … Media Outreach Toolkit (7-page Word file, provided directly to this project). Includes media-list building, reporter calls, concise pitches, consent considerations, and a model news release. There is no public URL verified for this particular attachment; refer to the project copy. Adaptation: protect participant privacy and autonomy; don’t gatekeep interviewees or promise anyone’s participation.

C. Independent local donation/resource examples

These are examples of existing local organizations to contact, not confirmed Campout hosts, partners, drop-off stations, or co-sponsors.

D. Existing Chico Campout materials … retained

The November national materials supplement rather than replace our local educational materials:

Source-use and attribution policy

Verified observation dates: Source links checked October 31, 2026. The current awareness dates come from the HETAC, California legislative, and HHWeek pages. The NCH event listing elsewhere uses a broader November 14–22 window, while the HHWeek main campaign advertises November 15–21; we use the latter for our public calendar. Links, calendars, and donation needs may change.

Statistics: Sources include older national figures from 2016–2022. Do not carry them into 2026 flyers without updating the source, reference year, geography, and definition. A point-in-time homelessness count is not an annual count of everyone who experiences homelessness.

Copyright: We link to original national toolkits and describe their ideas; we do not republish entire texts or imply they were authored by Chico organizers. The Campus Organizing Toolkit contains a CC BY 4.0 attribution note; source links and credit are preserved.

Editorial commitments: Person-first wording; informed consent for stories and images; age-appropriate learning; safety and weather planning; no deprivation simulations; no compulsory donations; no promise of housing or services; housing affordability and stability remain central to the Campout discussion.

Project identity: Chico Campout for Compassion is independently organized. Linking national organizations does not mean sponsorship, endorsement, registration, or partnership.
