And just to be clear … this isn’t a plea for help. It’s just another chapter in my ongoing adventures in US America. 😁
Apparently, the adventure continues … After going from an unemployed homeless individual to working part-time and taking rent on a private room … my food assistance has been cut from $9.93 per day to just $2.90 per day. In this current environment, I was already having problems with having enough each month … before making these changes. I was under the impression that I would be able to earn up to my IRT without it affecting my benefits … but this is obviously not the case. I figured that there would be some sort of change … but not a 70% reduction. That was a surprise! I am only working 16 hours per week … and nearly half my income goes directly toward rent and utilities. This is just another example of a system that can be (and is) punitive at times … intentional or not … when it is needed the most. Right now, my biggest fear … is that becoming employed and housed will disqualify me from my Medi-Cal assistance … that I am depending on for my life! Literally. 😁 Shared post
